The Specialty Coffee Association is running it back on 2020. The coffee competition year that wasnโtโthanks to the coronavirus pandemicโwill be once again with the SCA announcing Melbourne and Warsaw as the host cities for the 2022 World Coffee Championships.
The announcement comes one week after the SCA confirmed Milan as the host for the 2021 World Barista Championship, World Brewers Cup, and World Cup Tasters as well as the postponement of the Taipei event and with it the World Latte Art, World Coffee in Good Spirits, and World Coffee Roasting Championship.
Nonetheless, the SCA is pressing ahead in its 2022 preparations, and it is returning to the would-be 2020 host cities. Mimicking the schedule from two years ago, the 2022 World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup will be heading to Melbourne, Australia as part of the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) taking place September 27th through 30th. Similarly, Warsaw, Poland will resume its 2020 hosting duties with the 2022 World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship, World Cup Tasters Championship, and World Coffee Roasting Championship to take place alongside the SCA’s global trade show World Of Coffee Warsaw between June 16th and 18th.
โMelbourne is a fantastic location for the World Coffee Championships, and we are delighted to be hosted at MICE once more,โ said Yannis Apostolopoulos, SCA Chief Executive Officer. โAustralia has an incredible coffee culture and weโre excited to celebrate the best competitors from around the world in such a fantastic city.โ
As of press time, no indication from the SCA if or when the 2022 World Cezve/Ibrik Championship will be held.
