Today is the day, itโs finally here, the start of World of Coffee in Athens, Greece, kicking off the Specialty Coffeeโs first global event of 2023 and bringing with it four World Coffee Championships. Taking place between June 21st and 24th, World of Coffee Athens is going to be four days of new tech, education, lots and lot of coffee, and at the end of it all, four new champions will be crowned.
While the rest of the World of Coffee festivities donโt start until tomorrow, the World Coffee Championships are getting a head start and with lots of hot coffee action today. Over 140 coffee professionals are expected to take the stages over the course of the long weekend, battling it out in the four events being hosted: World Barista Championship, World Brewers Cup, World Cup Tasters, and World Cezve/Ibrik Championship. The remaining three disciplinesโWorld Latte Art Championship, World Coffee in Good Spirits, and World Roasting Championshipโwill take place later this year at the Taiwan International Coffee Show in Taipei.
And though the World Coffee Championships are sure to draw a lot of attention, there is certainly a lot more to see and do inside the Athens Metropolitan Expo center this weekend. There will be not one but two Roasters Villages, with more than 100 coffee companies from around the globe presenting some of their best offerings. There will be coffee cuppings and workshops as well as an expansive roster of lectures touching on topics ranging from cafe design to carbon emissions, from sensory skills to farming best practices. And of course, there will be over 350 exhibitors, some of whom will be entering their latest products in the Best New Product and Coffee Design Awards also taking place at WoC Athens.
There’s frankly too much to list here, all happening with one of the most historic cities in the world as the backdrop. For more information, to see the full roster of festivities, or to grab your tickets, visit World of Coffee Athens’ official website.
