When it comes to pouring hot water over coffee, the Fellow Stagg EKG is a popular option in the specialty coffee realm, and can be found on the countertops of home users and high end coffee bars the world over. Now Fellow has announced an updated Stagg EKG Pro line of kettles, with a host of cool tweaks (and one maybe silly one).
Building off the success of the original Stagg EKG, San Francisco-based Fellow has made a few adjustments to improve day-to-day functionality as well as add some new features for those looking to go deep down the pour-over rabbit hole. Perhaps the biggest additionโor at least the one Iโm most excited about as an early morning coffee brewerโcomes via the new scheduled brewing. The Pro series now allows users to program a specific time they want their water to have reached the set temperature. Thanks to the new feature, youโll no longer have to manually start the kettle in the morning; you can just set it the night before and wake up ready to brew. And once the kettle reaches temp, a fun little chime will let you know itโs ready.
Fellow has also made a few changes to account for one issue many users have experienced with previous EKG models: lid leakage. Users can now set the altitude at which they are brewingโwhich affects waterโs boiling pointโso help prevent scalding hot water from bubbling out of the lidโs vent holes. And the lid itself is also getting an upgrade coming via โnew curved-slot vent holeโ and lid seal to keep water from dripping out from the top while pouring.
Other new features include multiple language options (English, French, and Spanish), customizable times the kettle will hold the water at temperature, and a full color high-resolution screen. The Pro series also has a Guide Mode, where users can preset different brewing parameters/temperatures to easily toggle between.
And also thereโs wifi. I mean, I know everything has wifi these days so why shouldnโt your kettle also, but I dunno. That said, the wifi will allow for firmware updates to the kettle via an app, so thatโs probably nice. I just need the thing to get hot and pour good. As with all things IoT, YMMV.
The EKG Pro Series sells for $195. And if you want to get super fancy, for $225 thereโs also a brand new Studio Edition that comes with a mirrored glass base and optional walnut accents (for $255).
The Fellow Stagg EKG Pro and Pro Studio Series are all currently on pre-order via Fellowโs website. For more information or to reserve your own, visit Fellow’s official website.
